This goes against everything that Adam wingard said in his interview with IGN. He wanted Godzilla to feel like the Godzilla weve been following ever since 2014 and kotm, not changing anything about the monster. So saying that, then revealing that this is mechagodzilla in disguise is absolute trash because it goes against everything he said and set out to do, plus its insulting to the movie and the fans because we are watching GODZILLA fight KONG not mechagodzilla fight Kong. Not to mention how difficult it would be to disguise it, how would you disguise mechagodzilla as Godzilla? It cant be done like the original 1974 movie. My theory about Mechagodzilla is more along the lines of humans desecrated the dead. The humans took the skeletal remains of the Godzilla Skeleton it showed at the beginning of the 2014 movie and built Mechagodzilla around the bones of the fallen Godzilla and in turn caused Godzilla to feel like the humans done wore out their welcome. Like Kiryu in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Tokyo SOS, Mechagodzilla either develops a mind of its own and starts thinking its Godzilla or the terrorist group from KOTM has control of it.

I really doubt that this theory is accurate. People want to see Kong vs Godzilla, not Kong vs Mechagodzilla. It'll be disappointing to see Kong fighting someone else. The trailer kind of disproves this anyway, they emphasis that something provokes Godzilla, and since we saw in the post credit on King of the Monsters, Ghidorah's remains may be what Mechagodzilla was crafted from. Godzilla may be sensing Ghidorah's presence somehow, and thats personally why I believe he's gone mad.
That actually is godzilla remember in the trailer where a womans voice said: (there was a war and there the last ones standing) I think there was a kaiju war and obviously kongs not a kaiju but i think he intervened and remember in king of the monsters godzilla killed king ghidorah and all the monsters bowed down to him and now godzilla saw kong on the ship and i think that was his instincts from the war and yes thats probably not mechagodzilla and yes also probably that wasnt godzillas son or relative thats just the body size of kong growing from a very long time not featured since the movie

The Godzilla species have always been at war with Kong's species, and since now Kong has left his island, Godzilla probably got triggered and went to those Aircraft Carriers to fight off King Kong either back to the island, or just straight up Kill him. Now I dunno if there's something else that even made these people bring out King Kong in the first place to fight off Godzilla, maybe it's something to do with mechazilla and it's DNA?

Here it is: Godzilla ends up beating kong, but doesn’t kill him, he knocks him out, and soon after, Mechagodzilla lands after the fight and takes on weakened Godzilla, overpowering him quickly, which is when Kong comes back to consciousness and helps Godzilla fight Mechagodzilla

Godzilla probably senses King G cause after kotm King G's brain was cut up and created new monsters. Godzilla being alpha feels this and goes to destroy the King G traces. Or the real Godzilla from kotm is resting from his fight still and Baby Godzilla is trying to take out the King G traces he detects and people just think he is going crazy. Or it is MechaGodzilla attacking and Godzilla just shows up like: STOP COPYING ME YOU BOT! and crushes the Mecha that is half his size. Kong would crap himself seeing just how big the real Zilla is and they'd still fight. Zilla of course comes out the victor and then goes home to rest again until the next movie.
