The Right Opinion: What Did This Drama Channel Have To Hide? - Spill | TRO
Who is the man behind this channel, who am I? Well, to be honest, it’s not really of great importance, and I’d prefer to keep my identity mostly private, although at this point it’s a bit late for that. Big shoutout to the news websites who published my name.
However, it doesn’t have much significance in the general discussion, because I am just one person presenting what they know and what they think, and honestly, the people behind the respective TH-vision channels aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things, and it’s so bizarre that today’s situation seems more important to many creators than it would appear on the surface.
So let’s go back over to the tea community. The tea community has a lot of players in its complex game, firstly the large beauty creators who produce content for millions of individuals. This content is fairly unproblematic on principle, but as observed, their demeanour is quite melodramatic, and there’s a reason why melodramatic has the word “drama” in it. Along with drama came people with opinions on that drama, who would have thought, you might even say that many of these channels provided commentary.
Now, typically the people who provided commentary were individuals with some level of proficiency in reporting of this drama. Their style may not exactly be for everyone but they have an audience, and it seems that many of them are legitimately invested in the outcome of this drama. Many of these creators are quite tabloid, and some are as dramatic as the genre they cover, and honestly, that’s alright, as long as people don’t come to expect anything more from the channels. That’s what commentary is, opinion based ideas, and if you disagree with that person, that’s okay too.
However, at the same time, some people may want a more in depth perspective on TH-vision drama, a lot of commentators aren’t the most involved in that, and that’s fine, not everyone has the time to sit down for a 30 minute summary of something that really isn’t the most consequential in their life. Nonetheless, there is a demand, and that demand exists in every genre, so it was natural, within the beauty community, eventually a channel would emerge with more focus on creating long form content that focuses on the delivery and the depth of information rather than merely the gut reaction to it.
The channel that appeared to answer these prayers was a creator by the name of Spill, like the fairly simplistic name, their content never assumes too much about the subjects that they’re covering, and focuses more on the delivery of this information in a journalistic and well cited way, with the conclusions often being well informed and providing some sort of additional insight. They started their channel on the 5th of September 2018, and in the following year have accumulated a pretty healthy 930,000 subscribers. They often received praise from many audiences and creators for representing information in an unbiased and thorough fashion. Spill also appeared to be creating this more deeply rooted nexus, which is our word of the day by the way. This was represented by three additional channels, Brew, Grill, and On The Hill, which all have their own dynamic. They were good at what they did, however, perhaps a little too good.

  • Nothing against your video or your channel but this is my opinion and I am entitled to it as well as to give constructive criticism. When people create videos for youtube unless there are sponsorships which legally they need to disclose that information, other than that they don't need to disclose anything. I read some comments on your video and it saddens me that People are talking that how say Spill videos are "corporate" like and this is because people DO like Drama and people like videos where they actually give their own personal opinion. I personally ocasionally watch Spill videos when a particular subject comes up because they are informative. There are facts and they are all exposed in the video and not just someone giving their personal opinion or fueling a drama. People need to stop this culture... I find it funny that Spill never showed her face (I think) and it (the channel) started growing up and having views, likes subscribers and people immediately had to research on them to try and dig up dirt to try and "cancel" them because nowadays that is the culture. Why not leave people alone who are actually doing constructive informative videos instead of focusing on the actual drama people that will give u content for your videos as well as views, subscribers and etc?

    guylinerguyliner20 วันที่ผ่านมา
  • There’s nothing wrong with being an individual creator and hiring a team like James Charles for example, but when you start with a huge team and build up your fanbase based off of lies it’s scummy.

    guylinerguyliner20 วันที่ผ่านมา
  • Can some one please explain why it’s a big deal? Is it because people like thinking they’re actually subscribed to a person and supporting this person, but it ends up being multiple people? I get that, but if they said from the start they are coorperations, I don’t find it a huge deal.

    guylinerguyliner20 วันที่ผ่านมา
    • @guyliner Company TH-visionrs bad for real youtubers because noncompany youtubers cant keep up Company TH-visioners bad for watchers because it makes watchers expect same quality company youtubers have for all youtubers including noncompany youtubers who dont have the resources to do that

      Lupin UniverseLupin Universe11 วันที่ผ่านมา
    • Lupin Universe any one wanna TL;DR

      guylinerguyliner11 วันที่ผ่านมา
    • It depends on the individual. The other TH-visionr drama people were starting to look into Spill because she has a level of polish and professionalism that they can't compete with, with their more relatable human aspect. They feel like their corner of youtube is being imposed on by a cooperation that has the resources to outpace and put them down when they just would not be able to compete. TH-vision drama and most youtube topics need speed to be able to react and get the clicks of a hungry audience, and due to this task of speed videos can become a lot more sloppy or provide misinformation in order to just be first. Spill on the other hand as a company can always drop out content in a timely manner while still keeping that exact same level of polish that a watcher would want without fail,, because it's a large group of people individually achieving that task. Animators, editors, fact checkers, and script writers can all work simultaneously as the voice of Spill just has to read the script when it's all done. Other youtubers tend to have to do their own research, editing, fact checking, script writing, and of course recording due to hiring people for it is costly and youtube alone can't sustain multiple people without things such as pateron or lots of ad sponsors. And if an individual youtuber goes down the route of ads and patreon, it means that their product gets affected with ad reads or needing to provide even more content for your patreon sponsors specially. As for the youtube watchers, it's a sense of honesty. If you do some digging you can see that Spill did present herself as sort of a single person producing content and only after other youtubers put her on blast did she reveal that it was more of a company, and even when admitting it was a company, the explanation behind it was omitted or outright lied about. And the followup video still dodged some of the questions and accusations people had on Spill, but gave us more of a general sap story of a rags to riches person who we did not even know existed beforehand. This is because the more Spill as a company talk about their power as, well a company, they are being pushed more and more from the position of what the image of a youtuber is to the audience: The person who sets up a camera and talks to people because they are passionate about a topic and want to share it with others. This hurts Spill because it can have people open their eyes about how really unfair it can be to make the normal youtuber compete with a company, as well as how gross it can feel to be tricked into thinking a company is a perrson. It's the same reason why people get upset when company tweet that they are pro BlackLivesMatter while doing nothing else. What do you mean that you as a company is BLM? Is that a statement that every single member of your company actually believes? How far does that pro BLM statement go? Do you even hire people of color in your positions (which is a lot of cases from research such as Snapchat, they do not)? So this boils down to a moral question that people who care have to deal with. As a youtuber the question is "How long can I keep this up going against a company while still having the freedom to do what I like?" And for the watcher it is "Should I still support this company who can produce what I want perfectly every time, if it means that that support will eventually push genuine people also working away?"

  • I only watched the ‘Brew’ channel because their content just happened to interest me. I didn’t look at Spill because frankly I didn’t care. My question is, who cares? They lied about being a big group, but that’s simply because commentary is meant to be personal, as said in the video. People are very clearly just trying to make drama about a drama channel because that makes for, you guessed it, better drama. This is so utterly unimportant, even by TH-vision standards.

It's a lot better than alot of the videos of drama and tea made by other creators, but I do like the fact that this video gave me insight into how they could possibly do that. And the fact that it may be a corporation is concerning, ngl.

  • So I'd kinda like to say that I rather enjoy "on the hill" it makes it more enjoyable when you look at it as satire. and that's kind of the point with satire characters they're supposed to be 2D. But because they're using it as a hub they can't afford to over exaggerate characters as you would see in a standard otherwise the traffic that they drive don't stick. I mean one punch man is literally anime about a guy who 1 punches things trying to look any deeper than that just takes too much work.
