The Wild Thornberrys Review | Nick-O-Rama

These berries have some very conflicting flavors, and yet ultimately come out bland.

  • This is one of the reasons why BraceFace was an okay show for me. The premise of a girl with supernatural metallic braces surviving middle/high school. Throughout the series, it's mainly about her life and her interactions with other people. Her braces' abilities are barely mentioned and wasted potential.

  • one thing i always wondered about this show, the family travels all over the world to pretty much every country (i think it was even a new country almost every episode) wouldnt they be getting super ill from all the diseases they aren't used to since they never encountered the specific strains before? wouldn't they be carrying them and introducing them to places that wouldnt be able to defend against them essentially causing potential pandemics?

  • 8:17 I also have a borderline "unpitchable" idea that works well in execution, but not in the same way as Bojack Horseman. Plush is an adult animated film I am in progress of writing that has good aesthetics and will be made to break the molds of the animation genre, and Ashleigh Ball is just the person I need to star in it, because of her sexy Rainbow Dash voice. Plush is about four prepubescent children who hump stuffed animals and learn there is nothing wrong with doing that in private. They also learn to start making real friends, know the difference between what they should do with real kids their own age vs. plush animals, and worry about being too old or too big for their plush animal boyfriends/girlfriends when they grow up and get a real partner. I know Plush might sound like it is child pornography, but as the big old hormone monster once said - "I mean, maybe if it's *animated*, we can get away with it - right?" February 25, 2020, 6:17pm

  • Hey, what about Littlest Pet Shop? Did that use its premise of Blythe Baxter talking to animals well at all? I am sure they sometimes do, but other times that doesn't affect anything in episodes where they have plots split between - a plot of the pets' conflicts in the pet shop without Blythe, and a plot of Blythe's personal human life at home and school. • Maybe The Wild Thornberrys to you...is like what Becker is to Bojack Horseman. In the Bojack Horseman episode Free Churro, Bojack Horseman compared Becker to his parents' parenting - all the pieces are there, but they are not executed in the right way. February 25, 2020, 6:01pm

  • 1:27-1:32 It's like what you said about Almost Naked Animals not having a premise or the animals being almost naked not affecting the plots. The wacky hi jinx that they get up to in the banana cabana is all the premise that the show needs. February 25, 2020, 5:59pm

  • I think Eliza's gift doesn't apply to humans, seeing as she can't understand people who speak human languages besides English (I think). That would make a human who speaks an albeit made-up language of human babble still unintelligible to her.

  • Why are a lot of these Nicktoons most memorable for one side character? Nigel is by far the most memorable and generally best aspect of this show. Of course a lot of that is due to Tim Curry.

  • Basically this was the show that made me study biology. Jurassic Park made me study palaeontology. They might be really different, but I'm quite the person I am today thanks to them, and for that, this show takes a really special part in my soul. Yet, they both don't have Master Iroh. But you don't need it all to be memorable in a good way.

  • I understand that you find the lack of supervision of Elisa dangerous It is dangerous to leave a children alone outside, especially in jungles with wild animals However I need to point out something, the Thornberry family is constantly in the wild, it would be safe to assume that most of their time thay are in the jungles or the fields, not so much in suburbs or cities (that's one of the complaints that the elder sister has, she wants to live in the city and live her life with her friends, but can't because of the job of her parents) And when someone doesn't live in the city, they often learn how to handle themselves in the open, they teach their children and are more confident with them exploring, they even let their young children search and hunt the dinner. My aunt was a biologist, she often went to the forests and jungles and she is very carefree in that sense, and a lot of biologists are like that, they are not afraid of the nature but they respect it, and they give the same sentiment to their children The character of Nigel in that sense is very well done, most biologists are like him, they find everything in nature interesting, even the stuff we find weird or ugly. That's why I don't find that weird that Elisa's parents give her so much freedom, they see that she can handle herself and always comes back, so they let her explore, they also let her sister stay in they bus. (And let me tell you something when you are in constant traveling, hours and hours of constant driving, even the most comfortable and big vehicle becomes a walking cage, when you finally arrive to your destination you only want to stretch and walk) For example a person that has only lived in the city wouldn't know how to handle a snake, or would go crazy of the sound of a lot of mosquitos, they probably wouldn't know how to climb a tree, but people that lived in the wild are not only used to it, they know what to do In a secondary note, often the fist observation that the people in the wild have of the city people when they first arrive, is that they are too loud, when you are in the jungle you tend to be quiet not only to hear possible predators, but also so they don't hear you.

  • I was pretty heavily into reptiles as a kid, so I did find it pretty insulting that they managed to fuck up the info on Komodo dragons that horribly. So far as I'm aware, instances of them eating a human have only ever been unconfirmed rumors. There might've been a case of them eating a human corpse (I'd have to check again), but they definitely don't predate on humans. And it's such an unnecessary dosage of bullshit, too. Komodo dragons are known to eat monkeys, so it should've been enough to just have Darwin be the one in any real danger, but no, we gotta have the lizard unrealistically intending to eat Eliza as well just because.

  • First, yes, Tim Curry owned this show is Nigel "Smashing!" Thornberry. His attitude and mannerisms were so infectious. Second, you left out that Donny was voiced by Flea, of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Just yelled gibberish at a mic all day. Easiest. Job. Ever. Lastly, HOLY SHIT DONNY'S REAL PARENTS WERE KILLED BY POACHERS?! WHEN DID THEY REVEAL THAT?! It must have been after I stopped watching.

  • While CatDog was more of a hit or miss due to going too far with it’s mean spirited moments and asshole characters,I just find the characters to be more tolerable compared to the ones in CatDog(Debbie was more of a sarcastic teenage daughter,Donnie was more of a wacky child and the absolute reason the Thornberrys adopted him is that he was actually raised by orangutans when his parents were killed and I find his gibberish very funny thanks to Red Hot Chili Peppers singer,Flea doing the voice),plus the movie was freckin awesome thanks to Paul Simon’s Father and Daughter.

  • ive always liked this cartoon and think it was special, your right in how it struggles with itself alot so the show as a whole is somewhat hit and miss...but taken episode by episode, there are some real gems. infact some of my favorite nicktoons episodes come from wild thorn berries, i particularly like the ones that revolve around legends, and supernatural themes such as the one about the day of the dead, and the episode when eliza gets lost in a haunted forest.
