  • I give you a ton of credit for your ending explained on Prometheus and Alien, its easily the best I've found, but I have to say you’ve really phoned this one in completely. This is more of a recap than an ending explained. You didn’t even attempt to touch on the underlying sexual abuse by Jack with Danny. Clearly you did so little research that you didn’t notice that Jack was reading a PLAYGIRL (not Playboy) magazine while waiting to meet Ullman at the hotel. Not just any Playgirl either... one of the articles on the cover of the magazine was "INCEST: Why Parents Sleep with Their Children". It is undeniable that Kubrick chose that magazine on purpose. That, along with the rocket sweater pointing at Dannys mouth, the bear pillow behind Danny when he is on the bed, pants off, being checked by the doctor, Tony who lives in his mouth and sometime in his stomach, the bear that is performing oral sex on another man... it's really too much to ignore... yet you didn't even touch it. It's undoubtedly an uncomfortable topic, but the whole movie is meant to make you uncomfortable, so I'm in no way surprised that Kubrick would go there as well. Please do your homework in the future like you did with Prometheus or just don't waste the audiences time. For anyone who is interested in a real analysis of the film (not a recap), especially the topic of sexual abuse, you can go here:

  • So you essentially explained the movie scene by scene. Not quite EXPLAINING what it was about. I had a hard time concentrating because your haircut is so bad.

    JasonJason6 วันที่ผ่านมา
  • I think something that goes overlooked, but I don't think is an accident on Kubrick's part, the bedroom attached to the bathroom where the woman is found in the bathtub, is decorated in a modern, 1980's way, while the bathroom is in a 1930's, Art Deco decor. There's a hidden message there, plus the fact that the bathroom is done in a green found in operating rooms. A surgeon who looks up from the dark red wound and glances at the bright, illuminated white-washed wall will find himself momentarily blinded by constricted pupils and it will take precious seconds for his eye to adjust back to the less well illuminated wound. This problem is averted with the eyeball friendly green walls. I think it's no mistake Kubrick made the walls green in the bathroom to bring in a metaphor of some sort, like the dissection of the soul or of consciousness.

  • I realise Kubrick wanted to add spooky to his film by stating things like "Oh, yeah, the hotel was built on a Native burial ground," but it seems so out of place. For one thing, that shouldn't be something the director of the hotel should be proudly boasting when talking of how wonderful the hotel is. It almost feels like they were trying to find an easy reason to explain why the hotel is haunted, but also make the spooky connection for audiences who would have seen Amityville Horror the year before, as it is claimed by the story that the Amityville house was also built upon a Native burial ground.

  • One theory says that the "continuity errors" depicted two different worlds: the real world, and an imagined world by Jack - the novel he is writing. A horror novel (remember that his wife likes that genre?) He is inspired (just like King was btw) by the hotel, and puts himself, and his family, in his own novel, set in the hotel. So the hotel scenes in his novel don't exactly match the real hotel - chairs missing, objects in different places, etc.. Those are just minor details to Jack, but to we the audience, they are a clue to what we are all watching: A blend of his novel, and reality. I'd say about 2/3 of the movie is Jack's novel. So in the end, we all watched a movie based on Jack's novel. Kubrick was a genius.

  • The movie's beginning aerial shots were actually shot with drones. Kubrick time-travelled to the future and brought some back. Then after the movie was launched, he MIB flashed every single person who worked on the movie (he also time travelled to get the device). Or maybe it was a steady-cam in a helicopter.
