    • @Anoneemus Noename To all the people complaining about Patel as Gawain: It's based on a 14th century poem. By the 12th century we have court records of Saracen warriors settled in southwest England, and certainly in the 8th century there is numismatic evidence of contact between England and Moorish Spain. The filmmakers have made a reasonable extrapolation. And I hear you say "Boohoo but Arthurs fictional stories take place between the 4th and 6th century." Even better: the Roman Invasion at that time introduced a wide variety of ethnicities and skin complexions to the British Isles through the Roman Army. In fact Arthur might have been half-roman (if and that's a big IF he ever even existed and because Gawain is Arthurs nephew, well figure that one out for yourself), as far as scholars are concerned and we have a multitude of dark-skinned Knights in the court of Arthur in the Medieval Arthurian Stories: we have the 4 full Saracens - Sir Palomedes, his father and his two brothers, we have Sir Feirefiz who is half-Saracen and Sir Parcivals half-brother as well as Arthurs nephew. And we have Sir Morien, who is black and half-moorish. These are all established knights of the Round Table and some of their stories are a hundred years older than "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight". Arthur's court has never ever been only white. Check the stories. And you will cry "But Gawain is none of the above! And Saracens are not Indians!" Well, great that Patel is neither playing a Saracen nor an Indian knight. He is a British man and citizen, portraying an medieval knight with a skin complexion only slightly darker than the average Caucasian - a weathered look a knight could acquire from long journeys. And in case you forgot: it's based on a fictional 14th century fantasy romance poem full of dragons, witches and green men. And male bisexuality. I'd say quit whining.

    • @ivan cores "Colorblind casting", aka woke bullshit. Sir Gawain was a scotsman ffs and they got an indian guy playing him like race mixing wasn't frowned upon back then. No way Arthur would ever admit he was his nephew let alone have him seated at the round table. He'd probably have been sent away at birth, if not killed...

      Anoneemus NoenameAnoneemus Noename22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
    • I agree. Why would they cast an indian actor for an Arturian tale?

      ivan coresivan coresวันที่ผ่านมา
  • This movie looks very promising and I’m really looking forward to watch it. Nevertheless, and with all due respect for Patel, It’s hard to imagine him as Gawain. I don’t believe he is the best cast. I read all the books and I may say that I’m quite familiar to Sir Gawain. My statement isn’t only based on his looks but, mostly, on his bearing and representation of the famous Knight (from what I can tell from the trailer).

    André Rocha TorresAndré Rocha Torresวันที่ผ่านมา
    • Okay, I'll take the bait, as a scholar of Arthurian Literature. Let's agree: skin color is not an issue here. I am open to talk about Patels portrayal of Gawain: how do come to the conclusion he's not performing the role adequately?

Not sure what the complaints about Patel being Indian are about, it fiction and he’s British besides the majority of the other characters seem European so him being Indian makes him stand out, my only complaint is Patel is too handsome to be intimidating.

One of the most recognizable characters from Polish fiction is a character of colonel Michal Wolodyjowski who appears in Henryk Sienkiewicz's Trilogy written in late 19th century. He's not very tall or well built or too handsome and also doesn't make a very great first impression, but he is *the First Sword of the Commonwealth* an extremely honourable man who remains undefeated in duel and sacrifices himself defending his homeland against Ottoman Empire. Was Henryk Sienkiewicz an SJW?
