  • I always interpreted "The Long Road Home" as a story of Mike's relationship with _his_ father, who he sees later in the film. Also, I never knew about the Director's Ending, because my parents bought the movie when it first came out and it had the theatrical ending. When I watched the movie, it was that copy, and it wasn't until later when my dad decided to get it on Bluray that I even knew there was another ending. You're right, though, I agree that the theatrical ending is far superior. It just fits the tone better, as well as the Dante's Inferno metaphor it's going for.

  • But the Director's Cut ending is symbolic, though not consistent with the actual story. When Mike Enslin dies, he is with his daughter forever. It gives him his peace.

  • I always thought the Long Road Home, was a Dark Tower connection to the Comic Books. The Dad was a bastard in that story. And it becomes very obvious that the painting scene in this movie influenced IT and the Flute Lady.

  • I couldn't remember which version I saw but I don't remember seeing it in the theater but I remember the theatrical ending so I must have. I agree it's a way better ending. Especially the last scene in the apartment.

  • I always thought of 1408 as a doorway to hell, or a better description: An elevator through Dante's Inferno..

  • I was lucky enough to have watched that theatrical ending. I love this movie but all I can find is the alternate (director's cut) ending.

  • The hammerlady is no lady, that's "Benny the Jet" a famous martial artist of the 80's who is personal trainer of John Cusack and has some small parts in some his movies like Grosse Pointe Blank where he is assassin sent to go after Cusack and they have various fights scenes through the movie.

  • I like the director’s cut more. I think it’s because of different interpretations. In the director’s cut, Mike does redeem himself, but he dies, but he gets to be with Katie now and is at peace. In the theatrical cut, he redeems himself, lives, but has the proof. Needing the proof seems like part of his character flaw though, he can’t deal with Katie dying so he goes searching for her, and the proof being at the end still seems like just another scare put in an otherwise unmemorable “happy” ending. I see them as a complete story vs. a “scary” story. Knowing that the director’s cut was changed to the theatrical cut because of a focus group wanting a “happier” ending has biased me towards it though. Also, fun fact, there’s a third cut of the movie.

  • I liked the one where he died at the end better because it showed he realized the error of his ways enough to reunite with his Daughter in the afterlife. The ending where he survived is the worst one because even though he reunited with his wife, the voice on the recorder wasn't his daughter but the room intimidating his daughter, there is no closure from that.

  • Jesus! Dangling participles is the true hell here. 'Coming back inside, the window slams onto his hand' : The window isn't coming back inside, the man is! 'His face obscured, yelling for him to call the police' - The MAN isn't yelling for him to call the police, Mike is! 'When trying the key, it breaks off in the lock': When WHO is trying the key? Can the writers REALLY not hear that these sentences make no grammatical sense? GOD!!!!

  • Isn’t there a 3rd ending that’s pretty difficult to find? Also, there’s the fan made “ultimate ending” which combines parts of all 3.

  • I do disagree about the conclusion. They make a point of saying that the room isn't a ghost and that its just evil. Similarly we can assume that all of the "ghosts" that he saw in the room were just conjured by the room itself. So our main character definitely has proof that paranormal things exist but no proof of ghosts or an afterlife specifically.

  • Given that all King works are 100% connected, it's pretty clear that the room was built from materials recovered from the Overlook Hotel. Stripped of most of it's spirits by Danny absorbing them, and having to build up it's strength again by tormenting and twisting new victims.

    • There is another possibility that the room contains an egg from Pennywise that was not destroyed. The Powers of the room seem to mimic Pennywise to a much smaller degree.

  • Top 5 movie for me. Saw it in theaters and it had the ending with his daughter. Whenever I see it on t.v it's the same ending. Only seen the other dumbass ending online. Also the book is his relationship with his father, not his daughter. Mike's father was a bastard and a terrible father , he fleshes that out in a hallucination. Mike decided not to be like his father but he lost his daughter anyways. In the end he was becoming the bitter old man his father was until he was tested in the room.

  • I don't like the whole adding numbers to equal 13 on the door thing because then it turns into the Illuminati memes like "What?! Room 5419?! 54-19 is 35! But the room is located on floor 5! 35/5=7! The room was booked on 07/07 so we multiply 7 time 2! 7*2=14, but we we have to remember there are 7 days of the week, BUT the room was booked on a SINGLE day WITHIN a week. Subtract that day out: 14-1 and GASP!!!! THAT EQUALS 13!!!! Like, the ghosts could make up any math to make any room of the place haunted besides just 1408 like room 0904 or 3703. It's like that thing where you think you're entering room 669, but then after the haunting starts, the room starts rumbling, the door locks, and on the door's number plaque, a screw comes loose and boom. You THOUGHT you entered room 669, but the 9, now unhinged, drops to reveal that you're ACTUALLY in room 666!!! Really, whatever excuse the ghosts can come up with to justify murdering you in this one room in particular.

You keep getting little details wrong, like what his father means in the bathroom, what his first book was about, his relationship with his daughter, his character as a whole.... makes me wonder about how accurate your other videos are.
