  • what is there was an investment opportunity almost like a trust to athletes...when they graduate they will receive a percentage...the criteria will be hotly debated, but there will be a reward of some kind to athletes based on their sport...track and field will not get the same as football...

  • I remember this. I personally think college players deserve better but I'm not going to berate Tebow for having a different opinion, especially from a QB who played in college football.

  • I think Tebow is sincere about his beliefs but he is wrong on this issue. College football already is a very big business and the players should be able to make some money since they are the ones on the field earning the money for the coaches and universities. The money pie should be shared.

  • But they are getting paid. Do they know how expensive tuition, housing, medical, meals , travel , cost! Getting paid for likeness might work but if the school is paying based on what another school is paying , then say by to the other college sports especially at the d1 level.

  • Athletes are getting paid with a free college education, free room and board, cool experience, and an opportunity to showcase yourself for a professional league. Players get all that value and do not have to pay taxes on it. Nobody would do something for free unless they love it and find value in it. If the players did not value the opportunity they would not be there.

    • Mike W yep. They do get a scholarship to play a game, which has never been disputed. Truthfully the players already get paid like 3 to 5 thousand depending on the cost of living. That happened a few years ago. I also understood that in that deal, if they got cut they kept their scholarship. Even if that were not so, they would have been given room and board, and free tuition for this semesters that they were there while their classmates are waiting tables and collecting student loans that will haunt them for the next 15 to 30 years. So still a good deal.

      Stephen BinderStephen Binder4 หลายเดือนก่อน
    • If a player gets cut, he is not told he can finish his education. He has to go home. They get scholarships to play ball, not get an education.

The fact that he didn't grow up on the inner streets and never had to worry about going to bed hungry as a kid is more than what some other kids have to go through.

  • 1st off, Love Tim Tebow and respect him a ton, and everyone should know they don’t have to 100% agree with someone else’s perspective all of the time, Tim has his view point just like each of us has our own, we ought to be grateful for multiple perspectives and remain respectful in the midst of differences, I do think it’s messed up in a sense that players are some of the only ones not making a profit when they put so much at risk as well as invest so much into the sport, that being said, I think whatever is decided must be done with many different perspectives being brought together to arrive at the best possible decision for all involved, it won’t be perfect of course but at least we should try to set a strong foundation for adjustments moving forward. 😉

  • A lot of those players won’t make enough for tuition, food, supplies, and accommodations. That’s the reality. Don’t forget about those lovely taxes in California. Are they still going to give them a scholarship? That would be ridiculous to pay them and give them a free ride. This law is going to be nothing but trouble.

Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn’t mean it’s time to yell “off with his head” if you constantly surround yourself with people who only think like you, you will never evolve. Argue, debate, and most importantly have a discussion. Just remain civil doing so.

  • If they are good enough they will be paid millions after college... they go pro after two seasons cmon folks. Also they have free clothes from sponsors free food free housing free tuition free tutors free everything. While the average student leaves school with 40 or 50 thousands in debt. And if they don’t get drafted they owe nothing. Half of these players would not be accepted into college based on their academic abilities. I’m a GA bulldog fan and I seen an interview with one of our wide receivers saying he came to college reading on a 8th grade level really? Think God he can run fast and catch a ball.
