Space age audio - fifty years on

The Apollo 11 moon landing encounters the Philips UFO.
Depending upon what source you read, the date for the introduction of the Philips UFO turntable might vary. Multiple sources indicate that the design was done by Patrice Dupont in 1969 - these include - and the book “L'utopie du tout plastique : 1960-1973”. However other online sources state the GF303 was manufactured from 1972-1974. Irrespective of which one is correct, it’s irrefutably a classic space-age design.
COMMENTS: Unfortunately as soon as this video was posted the comments were immediately inundated with individuals promoting their own agendas and conspiracy theories. As a result of this, other viewers complained that the comments needed moderating because of all the spam. I therefore pinned a notice to advise that comments would be moderated - however that idea got the free speech advocates up in arms.
So here's what I'm doing - I'm just going to let the comments do their own thing - I won't be reading them and I won't be moderating them.
I will be offline today, working on another video.
It's up to each individual to decide whether to read the comments.
The ratio of comments to views is one stat to keep in mind though if you do choose to read them. Approximately only 1% of viewers comment on any given video. Most comments are friendly and helpful - the unpleasant ones only represent a fraction of that one percent of viewers. So it might be wise not to spend too long thinking about a statistical rounding error.
If anyone wants to post their agenda on TH-vision they should make their own video about it rather than trying to piggyback on a video about a record player.

  • A Techmoan picture disc!!! Fantastic.

  • Techmoan, I'm so happy that you buy and work on all this tech. If you weren't doing this I'd be going into debt buying all this stuff (not to mention running out of space for everything at home) but since you do it for me I'm able to keep my house less cluttered. You also save me money because I myself don't have to buy anything. Thanks again!

  • There was a similar record called "Man on the Moon" with narration by Walter Cronkite that I had as a kid, though I'm not sure I ever actually played it--my parents gave it to me after obtaining it for free somehow; it seems to have been a popular premium given away for things like opening a bank account. (It's often identified on eBay as "rare" but it's clearly not.) The package was not nearly as fancy.

  • Narrated by the incredibly long-careered Peter Thomas, who only recently retired (by dying) in 2016. Amazingly, I don't hear any difference between his young voice in the 1960s and his 90-year-old voice featured on PBS or The Forensic Files. It's an extraordinary voice that doesn't audibly age.

    • This one It's amazing to me that 1991 is only 22 years removed from 1969, whereas 1991 is 28 years removed from 2019. Another thing I never really appreciated: the moon landing effort began in earnest in 1962 (Kennedy at Rice University) and completed by 1969. Then they did moon landings up until Dec 1972. Then Apollo was replaced by the Space Shuttle that operated from 1981 to 2011 (30 years, 135 launches). The reason I never appreciated the close proximity between Apollo and the Shuttle was because I was born in 1968, so I was too young to appreciate any of the moon trips. Obviously I heard of them, but to me they were always something from way back in the deep past. I always regarded the shuttle as the modern way to launch, and the rockets of old to be out of date and wasteful. Well they were - but then so too were the solid boosters off the shuttle. Oh well - and very interesting track too, btw!
