KIDS AHOY! Sailing with Kids // Liveaboard Families Part I (Ep 83)

What’s it REALLY like to live on a sailboat?! As we make landfall after a month-long passage, we bring you along to explore the Marquesas Islands and the Tuamotus. After typical boatwork and tropical island playtime, we sit down and chat with the first of several a fellow sailing families about what it’s like for them to be sailing with kids.

  • Society is blinding you to the danger of sharks. Ask some Florida swimmers and surfers. Ask the pilots from world war 2 about the shark attacks of crews downed in the sea. Ask the survivors of sunk fishing boats in Australia about how they felt as their crew mates were taken by sharks. Don't continue this false narrative.

    grancito2grancito24 หลายเดือนก่อน
    • grancito2 Vagabonde was stupid. He should have dropped the fish to the shark. Everyone knows this. It’s only when you’re in water with a catch, bait that you might get attacked. The kids are just swimming!! And many of the sharks are just reef sharks who will not bother you UNLESS you have their food.

      C HunterC Hunterหลายเดือนก่อน
    • John Y Yaussi Exactly!!! I mentioned in my comment that commercial divers (abalones) and spear-fishermen are at risk IF they carry a catch..

      C HunterC Hunterหลายเดือนก่อน
    • grancito2 You would never live in Australia lmao! Many dangerous and highly venomous animals on land... you could never cope with that lifestyle. But we have to. You get used to shaking your boots, shoes before putting them on, you also scan each room without knowing it, an verandas under the car (out in the country) where big brown snakes likes to hide.. Again, what’s your problem with sharks??

      C HunterC Hunterหลายเดือนก่อน
    • grancito2 Your response to some comments sounds like you’re mentally unstable. Full of hate.

      C HunterC Hunterหลายเดือนก่อน
    • grancito2 Only the ones exposing themselves to potential shark attacks are Nr1 commercial divers for Abalone, spearfishing (when having caught a fish and is on the way up to the boat), swimming where there are seals around, some surfing areas yes, you run the risk of a shark attack. But swimming during day time like these people do with no fishing lines out, no swimming with bait is NO problem. Always avoid murky water, never ever swim at dusk and dawn and during night time. I don’t think you have much experience on the water, cruising life, marine life at all to be honest. But if you do, please specify what you have done and for how long to make these false claims.

  • I find it concerning that the family at the end took a selfish decision to take their children out of the school system without them finishing government education first as this will be very important in their development in early adulthood and for future employment, as most employers seek the very minimum state education completion, unless the parents can fund their children's future which I doubt I can only see them starting there life at a disadvantage obtaining a min wage job and a bleak future, so sad to see parents think of themselves first and it seems in today's world to be accepted. This is my opinion and not a personal attack I am just concerned the children may suffer.

  • Hey Zatara crew, I know you're not doing any Q&A's for a while, but I have a nagging question I'm begging to ask. I'm 15, born and raised in the States. I've always had a love for the ocean and was planning on joining the navy. However, I recently found out I am ineligible to join because of a dietary restriction (although correctable with medicine). I have just discovered the world of full time cruising and fell in love. I want to talk to my parents about any possibilities, but unfortunately neither of them are your outdoorsmen. Quite introverted. Can y'all give me any advice?

  • Every time I watch one of your videos and see all the amazing things you and your kids do it’s makes me wish I lived on a boat too! Looks so much better than ordinary land living! Unfortunately I’m only 16 and therefore cannot make this a reality at the moment, and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to! Seems expensive :(( I’ll keep dreaming though!

  • Tuck those legs in to your center of mass to get faster back-flip. This decreased radius will increase your angular momentum. Physics formular for this is Angular Momentum = Angular Velocity x Moment of Inertia. Good link to this principle is here. www.physicscentral.com/experiment/physicsathome/office-chair.cfm
