KIDS AHOY! Sailing with Kids // Liveaboard Families Part I (Ep 83)

What’s it REALLY like to live on a sailboat?! As we make landfall after a month-long passage, we bring you along to explore the Marquesas Islands and the Tuamotus. After typical boatwork and tropical island playtime, we sit down and chat with the first of several a fellow sailing families about what it’s like for them to be sailing with kids.
Featuring: Sailing Nikau:
***ALL OUR VIDEOS are TV-PG and filmed, edited, and produced exclusively by the six of us on our boat, the Privilege 585 Catamaran. So grab the wife and the kids and gather ‘round the TV, and spend a half hour EVERY THURSDAY laughing and adventuring with the Z-Crew!
If you wish to support our video efforts all we ask is that you WATCH, SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, and SHARE with your friends!
Or buy some goodies and help us get these kids off the boat and on to college! (Our favorite is the tri-blend shirt in Navy with the Float Away logo; you'll often see Jack sporting this super comfy shirt)

  • Society is blinding you to the danger of sharks. Ask some Florida swimmers and surfers. Ask the pilots from world war 2 about the shark attacks of crews downed in the sea. Ask the survivors of sunk fishing boats in Australia about how they felt as their crew mates were taken by sharks. Don't continue this false narrative.

  • what about dating though and if they want to experience that and live on land what do you do, would you just force them to live your dream? I wouldve done anything for this as a kid and a teen but missing homecoming and prom and football games wouldve just been really hard to miss out on

  • @6:47 "do stuff". Sure she's becoming a young woman and then "stuff" happens. Must be frustrating. Myself I would let my late teen kids go and have their privacy. It's human nature.

  • Hey Zatara crew, I know you're not doing any Q&A's for a while, but I have a nagging question I'm begging to ask. I'm 15, born and raised in the States. I've always had a love for the ocean and was planning on joining the navy. However, I recently found out I am ineligible to join because of a dietary restriction (although correctable with medicine). I have just discovered the world of full time cruising and fell in love. I want to talk to my parents about any possibilities, but unfortunately neither of them are your outdoorsmen. Quite introverted. Can y'all give me any advice?

  • Every time I watch one of your videos and see all the amazing things you and your kids do it’s makes me wish I lived on a boat too! Looks so much better than ordinary land living! Unfortunately I’m only 16 and therefore cannot make this a reality at the moment, and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to! Seems expensive :(( I’ll keep dreaming though!

  • Tuck those legs in to your center of mass to get faster back-flip. This decreased radius will increase your angular momentum. Physics formular for this is Angular Momentum = Angular Velocity x Moment of Inertia. Good link to this principle is here.

Jump in the ocean with a bar of soap ? - love your vids and you have definitely lit a little spark in me. Hoping to do this with my family.

I fear universities have fallen even more than k-12. My goal within 5 years is to do something similar to you , probably not sailing, but traveling and just enjoying life. Great gideos

  • Just a bit of info from a lifetime recreational fresh water boater. When you are pulling a tube and whip them when they are at the apex of the whip they are going twice as fast as the boat. Great video again you have a lovely lifestyle. It really makes one re-evaluate choices made and the alternatives. I would have loved to have done this for my kids. Your kids are getting an education that is not taught in any school. Cheers and safe journey for your family. PS Kieth's semi belly back flip flop looked like it hurt..
