    • Yes, not only is she being constrained she is actually living in the context of sexual violence and everyone is ignoring that and instead focusing on the children buying clothing and mimicking pop culture which is exactly what happens in real life and is exactly the problem. People are so focused on controlling women's presentation and consuming them for the purpose of filling a role that they have no actual skills or vocabulary to identify and confront rape culture. The critics of this film represent both extremes of the film's main antagonist.

  • "Cutie's",was suggested to by niece(11) by the Netflix algorithm. Now we(my family) come from a strong Middle Eastern back ground. So as a rule I watch any questionable material before she does. I'm so glad I did. I was out raged and felt that the movie was 100% inappropriate. In my opinion, movies like this generalized the sexualisation, exploitation and objectification of young children. This also gives a normalcy to pedophilia activities. The targeted audience of this movie focuses on young adults particularly young girls, from conservative backgrounds such as .Islam and Judaism. I was not impressed , this is objectification masked as empowering young women.

  • I saw the movie and it’s very average 5.5/10 a little boring and a weird and blurry message but even as a 14 year old I felt uncomfortable on all the unnecessary sexual tension scenes between 11 year olds and they had no reason being in the film. Just don’t watch it, please.

  • You absolutely nailed my exact thoughts on this issue TO A TEE!!!! THESE ARE ACTUAL CHILDREN BEING EXPLOITED!!!! There are so many other ways to explore this issue that don't involve actual children being leered at by the camera. These girls were on a film set, most likely surrounded by grown men, and then made to perform in a sexual way. Calling this a "critique" and "exploring taboos" when you're literally doing the thing you're condemning blows my mind. Thank you for this. I'm glad we have some sanity on here.

  • I haven't seen the movie, but there are 11 year old girls, who actually want to twerk, do gymnastic in tight clothes etc. The problem is not kids doing this, problem are people who want to heavy sexualize kids who want to do as same sports as adults (twerking, poledance etc.).I honestly have no problem with movie which would like to show kids who like to act as adults, because that is what kids in puberty wanna do. But there is good and there is bad way to adress those things. For me personally, kids beauty contest do much worse over the years and noone focus on that...

  • Unfortunately this is NOT the first time this has happened! Before most of you were born, there was a movie in 1995 named “Kids”. Look it up and let me know if I’m wrong. From that movie, the male actors were vilified: one committed suicide, one died of an overdose , one never was ever to shake the character backlash, while 2 of the female actors who were exploited went on to successful Hollywood careers. So this is not the first time this type of exploitation has happened and well with my example you can clearly follow , examine and react to the consequences of such a film. The harm will be societal but also will most likely and probably forever affect the child actors that portrayed this roles.

  • I don't think they actually wanted to make a commentary. I think the producer wanted to be scandalizing for effect, art. Artists like to get reactions. The "social commentary" spiel was for morality's sake, and maybe she felt it was a personal story of her's she wanted to tell, but she wanted to get the reaction more, to be edgy. The camera work though... motives are sus with whoever was behind that.

  • If they had to show it, they should've made an animation or like what was mentioned - used adult actors. And also not portray the dance in such a "sensual" way, like... Maybe show flashes of it? Idk, seems kind of like the producer has a Shane Dawson mentality where they actually like what they're seeing and using awareness as an excuse.

  • I’ve seen a couple TH-visionrs review this movie and so far this is the only one I respect. A lot of people reviewing are adding clips from the film (the most shocking and inappropriate parts) and saying how disgusting it is while simultaneously perpetuating the content and MONETIZING THE VIDEO. People are straight up playing the clip next to their face while they say something like “it’s disgusting that these people are exploiting children for money” then an ad plays two seconds later. Get out of here with your hypocrisy 🤦🏼‍♀️

  • I find it real funny that everyone is outraged by a movie made by a black woman about childrens dancing, at the same time you can see worst shit being glamorized on tik tok and dance moms.. Your young, during the 80s the most popular film about little girls was called pretty baby.. It's about a child prostitute and started a 11 year old that went on to become a huge star..her name was brooke shields, she discussed sex, had nude scenes and simulated sex with grown men...i watched this movie and I really enjoyed it..i don't know what bubble your living in, but in the real world when your trying to tackle a subject like this you, have to make it real and honest to prove your point..i feel like people are only attacking this movie because it is made by black woman and the scenes you said were so disturbing, don't hold a candle to the average tic tok videos.. The number 1 tv series is euphoria a show about sex drugs and Rock in roll amongst teens and no one is complaining because it's made by white folks in hollywood..i suggest people watch it for themselves..

It's about child soldiers in Africa and I don't actually know how bad it gets because I couldn't finish it. but, as far as I know, they didn't actually make these kids murder people on set. the kids weren't exposed to the bad stuff, it was pretty well hidden with camera tricks. it's still fucked and horrible and shows something awful, but they didn't make the problem worse (as far as I know)

  • I finally got around to watching Cuties and I was left feeling like the director was trying to be provocative just for shock value; I didn’t walk away from the film with the sense she was trying to make a movie about the disturbing trend of sexualizing young girls. This film was literally no more than what super graphic horror movies like Hostel and A Serbian Film did; the director was just being graphic and gross for shock value not for the audience to leave the film and have further intelligent conversations about it later on. I understand what the director intention was but boy did she miss the mark big time. 2 movies that come to mind that did a phenomenal job at putting a spotlight on peer pressure & teen sexuality would be Kids & Thirteen. If you compare Cuties to these 2 films Cuties doesn’t hold water. Thirteen did have suggestive sex scenes and rampant drug use but it was filmed in such a way that played into the protagonist downward spiral and moved the story along. Same thing with the movie Kids; I remember the opening sex scene made me super uncomfortable but as the movie unfolded you realize that those strategically placed scenes helped make sense of the choices that each character made throughout the movie.
