  • Worst place : Taiwan in winter 😬 I'm wondering why you put in the bow ties?

    • @Kav MW Centuries? Much longer than that as they are used on Egyptian pyramids and Aztec/Maya pyramids in Guatemala to hold the stone blocks in position and ancient stone structures in India. So thousands of years old. Don't have a worst place really - just cheap customers "wanting a silk purse out of a sow's ear". They are the less refined people and would buy ready made from JYSK. or a plastic copy of the real thing and that is good enough for them.

    • I wouldn’t want to stare at the bow ties every time I walk in. The piece is very nice but those are eye sores.

    • @rocifier I have watched many of his videos. I complimented him greatly. Did you not read or remotely understand what I wrote in detail? Are you saying that his client requested to bolster a crack on an incredible piece of wood with and unsightly patch? He has superior skills and I have seen him patch in other videos. Even with the bow ties he could have inserted a matching grain veneer or mad a mixture using matching sawdust of the same wood. Essentially all I said was that if he had to do it again, he would choose to patch in a different manner fitting his complete skills. This is a man that takes extreme pride in his work and strives to improve. Do you think he would use a bow tie to patch the neck or belly of a Stradivarius violin? His pieces are worth a few thousand and the violin many millions. The difference in value does not mean a major difference in the workmanship when you are good. Running a business has no bearing on handcrafted work. It is not a sliding scale where if you make five times as much you do five times as good a job.

  • Worsts place visited: Cartagena, Columbia. Gun boat followed our ship into harbor since the Columbian President was at his seaside resort. Like we were a threat! Witnessed street crime right in front of me, Federal police carrying machine guns as they patrolled the streets. Felt paranoid until I got back on the ship and left.

Nastiest Motel I have EVER seen. As far as the wood work goes, your inspiring me to try epoxy work.

  • Very good job on a huge POS walnut. I have been doing something similar on an altogether different types pieces of wood for a few years and I enjoyed watching someone else taking something that most woodworkers would throw out and making a Masterpiece out of it. I owned a sawmill for years and used plastic end "Bow ties" in the end of saw logs to keep the cracks from getting wider before we sawed them. Used to use a hammer that was built just for this job to one hit them into the end of the log. Called "Flitch Savers". Plastic bow ties were so that we could saw threw them with the blade. I think that I paid over $200 for the hammer. Should have worked for the gov't. Really enjoyed your video.

  • Hmmm 🤔 The worst place I’ve ever been… That’s a tough question, sometimes I feel like those worst places are we are a lot of learning and growth happens. This question can be interpreted in different ways. The actual worst place I’ve ever been was not even a place but rather a state of being, mind, emotionally after my divorce… That hands-down was the worst place I’ve ever been Which eventually led me to the most wonderful places that I’ve ever been, both emotionally and physically But if I really have to pick a place, physically, on our planet, It would have to be the one night I spent in the Worcester County house of correction, I would AVOID IT at all costs!!

Perhaps I inherited it from my Scottish grandfather, known to have taken a boat apart that he was building, because he did not like her lines. "Make her right".

  • To be fair to the "Worst Place" I'm going to name, I haven't been all that many places. I've lived in three states over a 30 year career. My worst place is New Jersey. As a business manager who ran multiple businesses in CA, TX, and New Jersey, my experience is that NJ makes it unnecessarily difficult to open, grow, and manage your business. I wanted to open more locations, HIRE more people, SPEND more money, and contribute to the tax base in the towns we were in. But each little township had their own rules, forms, fees, and requirements. I once stood in City Hall with an open checkbook, asking how much the fees were to get a (second) business license. I would have paid $1000 no problem but they couldn't figure out how much the fee was. Also, they required "the form" but could not specify the name of the form! After literal WEEKS of waiting and calling them often, the fee was $36 and the form was a power of attorney! Pretty standard stuff but why make it so hard? I'm calling you out, Cinnaminson, NJ lol. That was 20 years ago. I hope it's gotten better.
